Like many of the people who work at RD:IR, my route into investor relations was not very traditional. I gained a BA (Hons) in German from Sussex University, and began my working life in journalism and television research. I first got involved in Investor Relations in 1988 when I entered the City to manage and develop one of the first UK share register analysis services and have never looked back. In 2002 I founded my own consultancy, RD:IR. It has been an exhilarating experience to manage the company from its inception to its current position as an investor relations consultancy employing 35 people and retained by nearly 600 public companies in the UK and internationally.
Investor Relations has become increasingly sophisticated and very much a career of choice. I am passionate about the industry, and believe it is critical for practitioners to keep themselves up to speed with best practice and the regulatory framework within which IR operates. I have been involved with the UK IR Society for many years, being an architect of its Certificate in Investor Relations and sitting on the Society's Examination Board; I acted as Deputy Chairman for three years before being elevated to Chairman in June 2009, a position I held for two years. I remain on the Board of the Society and chair the Society's Events Committee, as well as sitting on the Conference and Policy Committees.
