Like many of the people who work at RD:IR, my route into investor relations was not very traditional. I gained a BA (Hons) in German from Sussex University, and began my working life in journalism and television research. I first got involved in Investor Relations in 1988 when I entered the City to manage and develop one of the first UK share register analysis services and have never looked back. In 2002 I founded my own company, RD:IR. It has been an exhilarating experience to manage the company from its inception, to an investor relations consultancy employing over 30 people and retained by over 520 public companies.
Investor Relations has become increasingly sophisticated and very much a career of choice. I am passionate about the industry, and believe it is critical for practitioners to keep themselves up to speed with best practice and the regulatory framework it sits within. To this end I have been involved with the UK IR Society for many years, being an architect of its Certificate in Investor Relations and sitting on its Examination Board; I acted as Deputy Chairman for three years before being elevated to Chairman in June 2009. I currently chair the Events Committee as well as sitting on the Conference, Policy and Nominations Committees. I contribute regularly on Investor Relations issues to industry magazines and journals, and lecture on capital markets at conferences throughout the world.
