The FSA consultation paper on disclosure of contracts for difference closed today. RD:IR has consistently argued that improved transparency of ownership can only enhance the relationship listed companies have with their owners, leading to improved dialogue and understanding, greater market efficiency and reduced volatility. Many of you will know that we were disappointed by the options outlined in the FSA consultation.

RD:IR is pleased to announce new contract wins to kick start the New Year.
We are delighted to welcome two new corporates to the fold, the High Street retailer Debenhams plc, and the pharmaceutical products and medical device group, Futura Medical plc. We also extend our service offering to long-standing client, pharmaceutical & biotechnology company SkyePharma plc, through taking on their IR CRM / equity marketing activities.
Additionally, we are delighted to broaden our reach into the Scottish fund management and investment trust sectors with the addition to our client portfolio of the eight investment trusts managed by Baillie Gifford and the three investment trusts managed by Martin Currie Investment Management.
In all cases RD:IR will supply shareholder analysis, Investor Relations and equity marketing services to the companies and trusts.

Earlier this year Richard Davies was invited to present the findings of a survey of Opinion on Financial Reporting & Auditing conducted on behalf of the International Corporate Governance Network and the Global Public Policy Committee by RD:IR. The presentation took place at The ICGN's London conference, 'Ownership and control in Europe - the long and the short of it'. The ICGN has now published a full report based on the survey findings. RD:IR recently conducted a survey of listed companies to seek views on the topical issue of the disclosure of contracts for difference (CFDs). The survey, conducted on behalf of the Investor Relations Society, sought to seek opinion ahead of the Financial Services Authority's consultation paper to be published in the next few weeks. An overwhelming 95% of respondents believe that DTR 5 should be amended to include the disclosure of CFDs. Of these respondents 88% thought changes should occur as soon as possible or within one year. Sixty per cent thought the underlying beneficial owner should be responsible for disclosure, 12% believed the responsibility lay with the bank who writes the CFD, while a further 27% thought both parties should disclose. All respondents felt that s793 of the Companies Act should be amended to include all long derivative positions including CFDs, while 93% felt it should be amended to also include short positions.

The International Corporate Governance Network's London conference, 'Ownership and control in Europe - the long and the short of it' took place on Monday 5 March at the ICAEW. As part of the conference proceedings, Richard Davies was invited to present the findings of a survey of Opinion on Financial Reporting & Auditing conducted on behalf of the ICGN and the Global Public Policy Committee by RD:IR during the fourth quarter of 2006. The ICGN will publish a full report based on the survey findings in due course.
